Site Selection: For a major consumer products manufacturer, conducted numerous site location studies for manufacturing and distribution facilities. Some of these studies involved add-ons to existing sites, while others involved new locations, some as large as 800 acres.
Warehouse Layout and Automation: For numerous companies, developed warehouse layouts to maximize square footage and cube utilization while maximizing labor productivity. In conjunction with warehouse layout, developed recommended warehouse automation.
Warehouse Slotting: We have implemented warehouse productivity tracking programs in both union, and non-union warehouses; providing significant improvement opportunities in all instances.
Decisions Regarding Owning, Leasing, Contracting or 3rd Party Warehousing?
Own - Your company's name is on the deed.
Lease - Your company's name is on the lease, usually for five or more years.
Contract - You have a contract with a warehousing provider for a guaranteed minimum in handling and storage charges, usually for a minimum period of three years.
3rd Party Warehousing - You have an agreement with a public warehouse provider to pay, so much per piece handled and stored, by month. No guaranteed minimums.
There is no single answer to this question; it depends upon the need for warehousing space, the time period over which you will need this space, and the individual geographic location of the space. Each decision requires careful analysis based upon the current situation.
